Hyderabad, 13 February 2026: In a detailed and strongly worded press conference held in Hyderabad, noted advocate Adv. Nizam A. Khan reiterated his opposition to the celebration of Valentine’s Day, describing it as “un-Islamic, culturally incompatible, and ethically harmful to the moral fabric of society.”
Addressing members of the media, Adv. Nizam A. Khan grounded his position firmly in the Qur’an and authentic Hadith, emphasizing that Islam lays down clear guidelines regarding modesty, interaction between non-mahram men and women, and preservation of chastity.
Qur’anic Guidance on Modesty and Lowering the Gaze
Adv. Nizam A. Khan cited verses from the Qur’an to underline Islam’s emphasis on modest conduct:
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts; that is purer for them.”
(Surah An-Nur 24:30)
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not to display their adornment…” (Surah An-Nur 24:31)
He explained that these verses establish the foundational principle of haya (modesty) in Islam. “Lowering the gaze is not merely physical; it is a discipline of the heart and mind. Any occasion that encourages free mixing, romantic expression, or attraction outside marriage directly contradicts these commands,” he stated.
He also referenced: “Do not approach zina (fornication). Indeed, it is an immorality and an evil way.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:32)
According to Adv. Nizam A. Khan, Islam does not merely prohibit immoral acts but blocks all pathways that may lead toward them.
Hadith on Interaction with Non-Mahram
Citing authentic narrations from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, Adv. Nizam A. Khan highlighted prophetic teachings regarding interaction with non-mahram individuals.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “No man is alone with a woman except that Shaytan is the third among them.” (Tirmidhi)
He also cited the well-known narration: “It is better for one of you to be struck on the head with an iron needle than to touch a woman who is not lawful for him.” (Reported in Tabarani)
Adv. Nizam A. Khan emphasized that Islam strictly prohibits physical contact between non-mahram men and women and discourages unnecessary interaction that may lead to temptation.
He further referenced the Prophet’s statement: “Modesty is part of faith.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Ethical and Social Concerns
Adv. Nizam A. Khan argued that celebrations like Valentine’s Day normalize private romantic relationships in public spaces, which he described as “contrary to Islamic morality and social ethics.”
“Islam honors love within marriage. The institution of Nikah protects dignity, lineage, and family structure. But promoting intimate relationships outside that framework weakens moral discipline,” he said.
He further stated that Islam regulates speech as well: “So do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet…” (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:32)
“This verse shows that even tone and style of conversation between non-mahrams must be dignified and guarded,” he added.
Appeal to Youth and Parents
Adv. Nizam A. Khan urged the youth of India to reflect upon Islamic teachings before participating in such celebrations.
“Our youth must understand that Islam does not suppress emotions; it channels them lawfully. Love is honored in Islam — but through marriage, responsibility, and commitment,” he stated.
He also appealed to parents, scholars, and community leaders to educate young people about Islamic guidelines on modesty, interaction, and moral discipline.
Commitment to Peaceful Awareness
Responding to media questions, Adv. Nizam A. Khan clarified that his position is rooted in religious belief and moral concern, and that any awareness campaign would remain lawful and peaceful.
“We respect the Constitution and the law of the land. Our objective is awareness, not confrontation. We want our community to remain firm on Qur’anic teachings and Prophetic guidance,” he concluded.
The press conference has sparked discussions across social circles in Hyderabad, with debates continuing over cultural identity, religious observance, and the influence of global trends on traditional values.
